GHD HAIR STRAIGHTENER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BY SIRIUSHAIR®

  • There are a couple of scratches on my refurbished GHD heater plates will this damage my hair?

Absolutely not....we have had tried to explain to many customers that GHD do not sell spares and as such we have to use both used and our own manufactured components to refurbish a set of GHD. Of the used GHD we receive for parts 98% have damage to the ceramic plates, in fact ALL of the GHD we repair for customers have some damage to the plates (Ask to see your stylists GHD as an example). The damage is caused to the paint covering and WILL NOT damage your hair. Hair damage is caused by excess heat and not using a heat protection spray on your hair and not a scratch to a heater plate.

  • Are GHD the best hair straighteners?

Unfortunately we cannot really say as it depends entirely on the individual and your hair, however what we do know is that we are repairing GHD that are 20 years old so they must be doing something right. That is the good thing about buying a GHD, even though the manufacturer does not supply parts or repair, we do, so if you spend £120 on a new pair of GHD it will outlive its 2 year GHD warranty as we can repair, no matter the fault, so really it is economical and environmentally correct to buy one, on the other side you can buy a cheaper or same priced Hair Straightener, such as Cloud 9 or Remington but when they fail they end up in landfill, at least even a faulty GHD has a resale value for parts. That is our opinion not based on how they straighten hair but how they are repairable.....and in this throw away society that is the way forward for everyone.

  • I have seen cheaper GHD ceramic heater elements on the internet, why are yours better?

Yes you are correct like most things there is always a less expensive option, however we have designed our ceramic heaters to be as compatible as possible with the originals, even down to the length of the connecting wires which do differ on each model, the main difference we have noticed is the electrical wires on the ceramic heaters fitted to original GHD are covered with a red electrical silicone insulation to prevent contact with the aluminium heater plate and metal holder, we used this on all our heater elements as part of the manufacture and is an extra cost, however the less expensive heaters are universal so the wires are all the same length (on some models they are far too long leading to stress being placed on the wires as they are folded to fit). However the main difference is the use of Kapton Tape to cover the electrical connections. Kapton Tape is a heat resistant tape and not a good insulator, "According to a NASA internal report, space shuttle wires were coated with an insulator known as Kapton that tended to break down over time, causing short circuits and, potentially, fires" need we say anymore?. Siriushair® only manufactures quality compatible GHD spare parts, with safety a paramount part of the design.

  • My GHD heater plates do not close shut, there is a slight gap when I straighten my hair is this normal?

On early model 4 GHD the heater plates were resting on small silicone rubber pads which enabled the plate to "Float" and when sufficient pressure was applied this gap decreased as the rubber was compressed, however when looked at there is a visible gap until used in this manner. We asked GHD about this and they did confirm that the gap was there to allow the free flow of hair through the ceramic heater elements to allow a smoother finish.

  • Who repairs GHD hair straighteners and flat irons?

There are many companies who state they repair GHD hair straighteners, however most of these purchase the spares and parts to enable them to offer this service from ourselves at Siriushair®.

We are currently repairing most models except the older GHD Platinum / Eclipse which unfortunately the technology used in these models made them a throwaway item.

Here at Siriushair® we are constantly developing new components and are currently the only re-seller of the latest GHD Gold S7N261 and S7N421 thermal fuses (PEPI H1) and replacement thermistor heaters.

Other repair companies have to wait for repair parts to be sent but we have them all readily available.

  • Do I need a heat guard for my GHD?

GHD started supplying a hard plastic cover guard with all new GHD and then with the movement to the Eclipse version they moved to a lighter and more closer fitting silicone rubber cover. All new GHD now come with these silicone covers which keep the arms tightly closed whilst cooling down, preventing heat damage to dressing table tops and accidental burns, they are especially good where children are involved as we are all aware how hot a hair straightener becomes, and even after use they are still possible of inflicting burns even after 20 minutes. GHD do not sell the heat guards separately so we had them manufactured ourselves from the same heat resistant silicone, and they are available on our website.

Would we advise getting one?

As a parent myself they are a safety necessity, you can not keep a watchful eye on the little ones all the time, and so for peace of mind please get one.

  • Who repairs GHD hair straighteners the cheapest and quickest?

We are not the cheapest, and that is due to the fact all our manufactured components are from reputable manufacturers with ASTA and VDE certification as well as power cables and plugs tested and registered to British Standards. In this day and age of counterfeit components you get what you pay for. However we do compete in the fact we supply FREEPOST postage labels, and with postage at an all time high this needs to be added to the less expensive repair services. Also since we have all the parts available to repair there are no hidden charges, please ensure you look at the cheaper services to see what is, and what is not, included. As to speed of repair we carry out repairs the same day they arrive and return Royal Mail First Class Recorded, so unless you are able to visit a repair company in person I think that is quick.

  • My GHD Gold has a red light of death what has happened?

Unfortunately the "Red Ring Of Death"  is a sign that your GHD need repairing, there is no easy cure for this fault, but do not throw them away! The red ring is not the end of your GHD and a costly replacement, they can be repaired.

The cause is usually a failed PEPI H1 thermal fuse OR a ceramic thermistor heater element both of which are components we have available, so you can either repair yourself using online You Tube videos, OR send to us for repair.

  • My GHD GOLD is totally dead with no lights and no power.

This could be something as simple as the fuse in the plug which should be rated at 3 or 5 amp do not permanently replace with a 13 amp fuse. It could also be a damaged power cable, you would be surprised at the amount of power cables we have to replace due to teething puppies and curious cats so unplug and check the cable for signs of damage or cuts. The worst case though is a motherboard failure. We do stock replacement motherboards but being such a new GHD they are in high demand so if this is a fault with yours we would advise contacting first before sending for repair. But remember like in the old days it could just be the fuse in the plug.

  • Who sells new GHD at the lowest price?

To be entirely honest "criminals". The cheapest GHD you see will be sold on the internet or car boot / markets stalls are counterfeit. We are not advocating that every new GHD sold cheaply is a counterfeit GHD but the percentage is extremely high. We have noticed sellers on ebay using comments such as "Old Stock" and "Amazon Store Returns" as reasons they can not be registered on the GHD website, do not fall into this trap! ALL new GHD can be registered on the website unless they are counterfeit, why not ask the seller for the hologram code and see what he replies. I have composed a list on our website of counterfeit hologram codes for you to check as well as photos of counterfeit GHD to help you. If it is too good to be true......it probably is.

  • I should not buy used or refurbished hair straighteners as they will be full of scalp debris and hair?

Unfortunately being a product which is passed through the hair hundreds of times a used set of GHD will contain hair follicles / scalp debris / and dandruff, that is unless the seller has clearly stated the unit has been stripped down and biologically cleaned.

Some common ailments of the scalp are:

Seborrheic Dermatitis.

Cradle Cap.

Head Lice.

Ringworm.

Folliculitis.

Psoriasis.

Lichen Planus

Unless the GHD has been disassembled the inside may carry remnants of these infections.

Here at Siriushair® we totally strip all our GHD to basic components, these are sanitised using a biological cleaning fluid and cleaned in a state of the art industrial machine which removes all traces of makeup and cosmetic residue, they are then left to dry before being given a protective coating and finally before dispatch after repair, given a quality control check and sanitised.

Refurbished at Siriushair® means it has been used but it has also gone through a stringent cleaning process.

  • How do I know which mains cable is for my model of GHD?

The easiest way to prevent returns and wasted time is to actually open the GHD and look at the cable connector, you are going to have to do this to replace the cable anyway so why not do it before you order one to ensure it is the correct version. You would be surprised how many people do not do this, causing delays / returns and obviously not good for the positive repair attitude.

Simply if the connector is metal you need a 3.1B cable.

If the connector is black you need to purchase a replacement MK5 cable connector and MK5 cable.

If the connector is clear plastic you need a MK5 cable.
